As the founder of the Biomedical Exchange Program (BMEP), Prof. Hilmar Stolte devoted his life to scientific research and to supporting the next generation of clinician-scientists in biomedicine.
The research stay he completed in the United States in 1966 had a profound impact on him. Even as he was pursuing his own academic career, he was committed to creating opportunities for young scientists to benefit from international exchange. In 1967, he founded the Biomedical Exchange Program (BMEP), which continues to enable biomedical students to undertake research stays abroad to this day.
The Hilmar Stolte Award
In recognition of outstanding scientific achievements and commitment to biomedical research, the Hilmar Stolte Award is presented annually to the top-performing BMEP scholarship recipient of each cohort.
